Construction in the Ancient World – Earthquake-Resistant Walls

Construction in the Ancient World - Wall in Mexico

Construction in the Ancient World – Earthquake-Resistant Walls
In the ancient world, as we all know, there were no architects and engineers.
At least not in the professional significance of our time.
Nonetheless, the ancient builders knew how to build structures that still stand today.
Structures that leave us, amazed and wondering 'how did they do it?'.

Minimalism – How to let go to live a better life?

Existing home interior design

Minimalism – How to let go to live a better life?
Minimalist life is not a narrow life. Living spartanly in terms of 'black and white'. It is about a more relaxed and prudent lifestyle, which allows us to live in comfort and quality of life.
In recent decades, more and more people are choosing to live minimalist lives.

Personal opinion – Has the State of Israel decided to stop private construction?

Plot for planning

A trend that began already in 2020, with the cancellation and freezing of tenders for plots for private construction.
For a long time now, I have been wondering, between myself and myself, whether the decision makers in the State of Israel are consciously trying to shut down the architectural planning industry, and in particular the field of private construction?

Why is there no small mobile homes in Israel?

Tiny Houses

Why is there no small mobile homes in Israel? In many countries in the Western world, people choose to live in a small mobile home or the foreign name Tiny Houses. Unfortunately, in Israel, it is not really possible to live in small mobile homes.
This is due to several interrelated factors.

Tiny houses – is it really cheaper?

Tiny Houses

It's not a 'fashion trend' to live in a small house.
or by the foreign name Tiny Houses
In many countries of the world, people choose to live sparingly.
For various reasons. Some are ideological, some are economic, and some are related to different characteristics of their way of life.
In Israel, many people turn to me to find out the construction costs of tiny homes.
The main reason for choosing this way of life is in order to reduce the costs of living – the cost of living, and hence the costs of building the project.
But if I look at the construction budget costs of these types of projects, I'm not at all sure they're cheaper.

Easy construction

View of a steel skeleton under light construction

Following many conversations with families interested in building with easy construction methods, I have noticed that sometimes people do not really understand what this concept means.

This time, I deal with the issue of light construction more widely, and presented it as a whole.

I wrote the article in two parts, in order to make some order in this whole mess.

In the first part I will tell you about the light construction and we will go down together to the different resolutions that characterize it.
In the second part of the article, I will detail my 'role in power' as an expert architect on this subject.

Persia Desert Ice Cooler - Yakhchāl

Did you know that in the deserts of Ancient Persia they would produce ice and ice cream?
If this sounds strange to you, I would be happy to renew it for you, because the ancient civilizations will know how to produce ice, and keep food fresh over time, even in extreme climate conditions.

Housing solutions for street dysing

Every few years, I write an article about affordable housing solutions.
Mainly on cheap and fast solutions, which can also be used by street dyslecists, and homeless people.
Around the world, there are many initiatives of people and social organizations that work in the best interests of street residents.

Does green building really save ongoing household maintenance expenses?

Green building materials

Studies conducted around the world and in Israel have shown that green buildings contribute to savings between 25%-50% in expenses for heating and cooling buildings, spending on lighting, and savings between 20%-35% in water expenditures for daily use in homes.

It is quite possible otherwise – small and efficient houses

House of the 4 Containers

Size doesn't always matter, and not necessarily a big or huge house is an advantage.
In 2020, many Israelis discovered the possibility of building small houses. Mostly from cargo containers. It's not that this method, or efficient little houses, were not before. But a massive marketing burden, in the form of an economic and social crisis, has led many families to look for housing alternatives.

Did you know that the Japanese have been making trees for construction and furniture for 700 years without cutting down trees?
In Japanese culture there is a direct and irreconcilable connection between our human existence and the environment. Nature.
The Japanese realized that humans must harm and even destroy the environment in order to exist. It happens when we hunt or fish our food. Deforestation is cut down for agriculture, settlement and construction needs. We change waterways, for irrigation and drinking, and more.

Mudhif Modif House

Mudhif Modif House

If there is one thing I love, it is to constantly learn about architecture, mainly about traditional architecture and warrnacular architecture, and understand how once, before the technological revolution, cultures and communities all over the world, found different solutions to the problems of housing and climate, in the areas where they existed.

Green Walls Green Walls

Green walls

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the facades of the city buildings in which we live looked like this?
Imagine walking down a street full of color, blooming and mostly cool?
Wouldn't that make you happy? Wouldn't you feel more relaxed?

Green walls renew green visibility and increase the amount of vegetation in urban environments.

Green walls can reduce air pollution levels in crowded cities, and help mitile biodiversity loss.

Designing small spaces – minimalist design

Minimalist design talks about settling for little and especially what we have.

It's not about 'hugging trees' and making compost, even culling vegetables and herbs.
Minimalist design has nothing to do with spirituality and return to nature
But to consume less, to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle.
Make informed use of our equipment and property. The amount of storage space we have. Make the right use of the space in which we live. To renew old equipment such as furniture, or purchase secondhand, and even produce part of it independently – DIY.

Who's it right to build a house out of containers?

Modern residence from freight containers

Who's it right to build a house out of containers?
People and families are interested in building a container residence.
The Israeli family realized that building a house from cargo containers could be a simpler and faster way to realize the dream of a private home.
Functional and practical, beautifully designed houses that we all dream of living in.
As an architect who has been engaged since 2009 in the planning and development of advanced and green construction methods, I have been able over the years to identify and define who is the family member or people who are best suited to build homes from containers

Personal Opinion – The NTA Project (Multi-Occupancy Vehicle Lanes)

Traffic jam

The expropriation of the right path, in the first weeks of its operation, increased the duration of standing in traffic jams. The confusion and lack of clarity about how to travel the cooperative route made it the meaningless path, which is used for illegal overtaking. The number of vehicles on the roads did not decrease, but was reduced to only two lanes, with the speed of travel in them decreased.

Personal opinion - not enough shade

Shading in a public park

The National Planning and Construction Council claims that as of 2019, a request to establish a shading element in the public sphere, of any kind, requires the preparation and submission of a detailed construction plan, which determines the building rights in the requested area. After submitting this plan, a licensing process must be submitted legally for issuing building permits to the local planning and construction committee. The National Planning and Building Council rightly argues that these are processes that take a long time.

Bamboo and wood construction

Bamboo and wood construction

In Israel, we are increasingly seeing the entry of this material in the fields of design, architectural planning and home styling. Bamboo can be purchased for gardens and balconies. Build a perfect thin bamboo. There are wall cladding and bamboo parquet. Ornical accessories for a bamboo house. Furniture for the house and garden and, of course, bamboo build.

The relationship between kibbutzim and environmental responsibility

Residential neighborhood in the kibbutz

The kibbutzim, which are so identified as an agricultural community, love the country and the environment, warmly embrace green thinking, and are relatively easily able to incorporate it into their social agenda.
Today, more and more kibbutzim are going through the "Green Revolution", incorporating various elements related to the environment and public environmental responsibility.
Most kibbutzim were placed in garbage collection areas, which separate the garbage from the various types: papers, glass and plastic bottles, white garbage (appliances and computing) clothes, plastic bags and trimming (organic garbage).
In other kibbutzim, solar energy farms are located on the roofs of agricultural buildings such as the dairy sheds, the garage and the roof of the dining room and more.
In a warm introduction, they installed a farm of wind turbines (as at a fulfillment level) for the production of clean energy. And there are many examples...

Organic Architecture Organic Architecture

Organic architecture is a planning approach, based on the worldview, that merges human habitation with nature/environment.
This combination is achieved through a design approach that is particularly sympathetic and considerate of the site and the environment in which the building is located.
This approach aims to merge the building and its natural environment into one entity.
Any construction method can exist in organic architecture, as long as the design relies on the planning principles of sustainable architecture – green architecture
